About us

Thanks for taking the time to visit Local Hooker Rods!

We live and breathe fishing. Bob's boat; "The Local Hooker" is moored in Chatham. We not only build the finest saltwater rods on the market, we fish them as well! Let us tell you why.

After fishing Chatham, Cape Cod for most of his life, Bob Jenkins decided it was time he started a serious saltwater rod company. From day one he made the decision to build the greatest rods available. He did it by using some of the best components on the market. Second-to-none!

Additionally, each rod is hand built by a master rod craftsman. Every rod blank has a slightly stiffer and a slightly softer side along its length when flexed. The stiffer side is known as the rods' backbone or “spine”. Most mass-produced rods are assembled without consideration for the placement of the spine in relation to the guides. In less expensive rods this is deliberately done to decrease assembly time, and lower production costs.

All of our rods are built with the guides placed precisely along the effective spine of the blank. The effective spine is located using the entire parabolic curve in the blank, under full load, not just at the tip. This configuration allows the softer side of the rod to flex toward the direction of pull (your fish), significantly reducing torque, and keeps the rod from wanting to ‘flip over' in your hands when under the load of a fighting fish. The benefit to you is now you're fighting your fish, and not your rod too. All of this equals better action and less fatigue on your arms and the rod, making a better fishing experience altogether!

Our rods will never be cheap! Remember the saying:

"Life's Too Short to Drink Cheap Wine."

Have some fun! Remember to send us your pictures; we'll post them on the site!

Get Bent!
